About Training

The Bujinkan organization incorporates the teachings of the martial arts lineages (ryūha) that Masaaki Hatsumi learned from Takamatsu Toshitsugu under the banner of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu

Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu training does not include participation in competitions or contests, as the school's training aims to develop the ability to protect oneself and others using techniques that focus on disabling an attacker as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Though the training is non-competitive in nature, it has its level of physical demand. Like many classical Japanese martial arts there are numerous Kata(forms) and Waza(techniques). These combination of forms and techniques will provide a vehicle for learning the concepts within them..

The desired outcome is to eventually be able to recognize the characteristics that are shared between all these methods of training and be able to freely apply the lessons learned going beyond being fix to a specific technique.

Training in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu will cover a broad range of areas. Some examples are:

Dakentaijutsu (Striking, Kicking)
Jutaijutsu (Joint Locks, Grappling)
Ukemi (Receiving attacks, rolling)
Kenjutsu (katana)
Sojutsu (spear)
Bojutsu (staff)
Tantojutsu (knife)

We focus on building this understanding taking in consideration our participants to enhance everyone's learning potential.

The Bujinkan largely focuses on “taijutsu” (body movement / skills) as well as other skills of ninjutsu (ninpo tactics and strategies) and happo biken jutsu (various modern and traditional weapons
